Claude vs GPT vs Gemini: Which AI Should You Use?
An honest comparison of the three major AI platforms for 2026 — strengths, weaknesses, and which is right for your use case.
The honest answer is: for most tasks, the best AI is the one you'll actually use consistently. But there are real differences worth knowing about, especially if you're picking a tool for your business or building something on top of an API.
Claude (Anthropic)
Claude is our preferred model at Brae — and not just because we build with it. It consistently performs best on tasks that require careful reasoning, following complex instructions, and producing long-form content that stays coherent throughout.
- Best for: long documents, nuanced writing, following detailed instructions
- Context window: 200k+ tokens (can read a whole book)
- Strengths: safety, coherence, instruction-following, honesty about uncertainty
- Weaknesses: no image generation, fewer integrations than GPT
GPT-4o (OpenAI)
GPT-4o is the most versatile all-rounder and has the largest ecosystem of integrations, plugins, and tools built on top of it. If you're buying a product that runs on AI, there's a good chance it uses OpenAI under the hood.
- Best for: general tasks, image understanding, wide integration support
- Context window: 128k tokens
- Strengths: ecosystem, multimodal (text + images), DALL-E integration
- Weaknesses: can be verbose, sometimes over-hedges
Gemini (Google)
Gemini's main advantage is its deep integration with Google's products — Docs, Sheets, Gmail, Search. If your team lives in Google Workspace, Gemini 1.5 Pro is worth serious consideration.
- Best for: Google Workspace users, very long context tasks
- Context window: 1 million tokens (Gemini 1.5 Pro)
- Strengths: Google integration, massive context, real-time search
- Weaknesses: less consistent quality across task types
How to choose
The API question
If you're building a product on top of AI — not just using it — the API pricing and reliability matter more than raw capability. All three have competitive pricing at scale. Claude's API is what powers Brae's internal tools and several of our Labs products.
